My sister and I were road-tripping through Big Sur, camping at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, when we pulled off Highway 1 with no destination in mind. We found a quiet overlook, dealt a deck of cards, and watched the sun sink into the Pacific. As the light faded, the water turned that deep, impossible shade of blue that only seems to exist along this stretch of coast.

I took this photograph somewhere in the middle of that evening, a simple moment that felt like it could last forever.
